1979-1980

In 1979, a new sub-budget line of acoustic flat-tops appeared briefy, bearing the "Epi" brand. These guitars were made by the Marina company in Taiwan, in the city of Chaunyin, just outside of Taoyuan. The Epi line of instruments was offered as a "student guitar" and consisted of two folk-body models, two classical models and four dreadnought models, as well as an entry-level banjo. Due to lack of popularity and quality issues, the original Epi line was discontinued by 1980.

The retail price was $159.95 for the A-12, and $129.95 for the A-10. Both models were available in "N" (natural) finish only


1995-2001

The Epiphone Epi-Series was re-introduced in 1995 as an entry level line in the Epiphone range of guitars and basses. These guitars were produced in China and Indonesia and while some models only lasted for about one year, other models were produced until approximately 2001. The Epi line consisted of acoustic, archtop, solid body electric and bass guitar models as well as Epi guitar and bass practice amplifiers.
