The Les Paul Special was introduced in 1995 as a double cutaway with P-90 pickups and a set neck. Though not the first Epiphone Les Paul model to sport a flat top, it was the first Epiphone Les Paul model to heve the "Special" name attached to it. There were two prior versions of the Les Paul with flat tops; the LP-1, 2 & 3 with bolted necks and a later, short and currently unidentified run, with a set neck. The Les Paul Special II was introduced in 1996 as an entry level guitar at a lower price point than the LP-100. The Les Paul Special II is commonly seen with a flat top, bolt neck, single volume & tone controls and up until 2012, had no pickgurad. There have been many versions of the Les Paul Special over the years, including the Special I, the Invader, double cutaways, P-90 versions and Deluxe models. |
